Macaws New World Parrots

Macaws Long Tailed Colorful Parrots



Macaw is a kind of parrots often called New World Parrots. There are many different types of these parrots. These parrots are native to Central America, South America and Caribbean. Most of the Species are associated with Rainforests and Woodland. Larger beaks and long tails are the main characteristics of these kindda parrots.

Macaw Species



The largest macaws are the Hyacinth and the smallest member of the family is the red shouldered Macaw. It is no larger than some parakeets of the genus Aratinga. There are nineteen species of Macaws and several hypothetical extinct species that have been proposed based on very little evidence. Some of species names are follows: Glaucous Macaw, Hyacinth Macaw, Lear's Macaw, Spix's Macaw, Blue and Yellow Macaw etc...

Macaws Hybrids and Foods



Macaws are also hybridized for the purpose of pet trade. Hybrids are typical macaws with the only difference from true species being their genetics and their colors. These birds eats variety of foods including seeds, nuts, fruits, leaves and flowers etc.
